森美術館「ロン・ミュエク展」｜視線が語る、人間の内面 | Ron Mueck Exhibition at Mori Art Museum | The Inner World Revealed Through Their Gazes

先月、森美術館で開催されているロン・ミュエク展に行ってきました。

展示作品の多くは撮影可能だったため、撮影してきた作品を紹介していこうと思います。


「枝を持つ女」

第一印象は、力強い中年の女性でした。

なぜこれほど多くの木の枝を抱えているのでしょうか。

顔には疲れを感じさせないものの、どこか気難しそうな表情をしています。

やらなければならないことだから黙々と運んでいるのか、それとも別の理由があるのか。見る人によってさまざまな解釈ができそうな作品でした。

Last month, I visited the Ron Mueck exhibition at the Mori Art Museum.

Since many of the exhibits could be photographed, I’d like to share some of the works I captured during my visit.


“Woman with Sticks”

My first impression was of a strong, middle-aged woman.

Why is she carrying so many tree branches?

Although she doesn’t appear tired, she wears a somewhat stern expression.

Perhaps she is quietly carrying them simply because it is something that has to be done, or perhaps there is another reason altogether. It is a work that invites a variety of interpretations, depending on the viewer.

「イン・ベッド」

とても大きな作品で、間近で見ると迫力があります。

眠る前に考え事をしているのでしょうか。

女性は虚空を見つめています。

“In Bed”

It is a very large sculpture, and seeing it up close gives it a powerful presence.

Perhaps the woman is deep in thought before going to sleep.

The woman gazes into empty space.

「若いカップル」

正面から見ると、一見初々しい男女のカップルに見えます。

彫刻の裏側から見ると、二人の印象がまた違って見えてくるかもしれません。

“Young Couple”

At first glance, the sculpture appears to depict a young, innocent-looking couple.

However, when viewed from the back, your impression of the two may change.

「ゴースト」

個人的には、水泳の授業の合間に一人で過ごす時間を思い浮かべました。

ちょっとした時間に日常の小さな出来事を思い出し、考え込んでいるような印象です。

「ゴースト」というタイトルから、普段は表に出さない内面的な部分を表現しているのかもしれません。

“Ghost”

Personally, it reminded me of spending time alone before or after a swimming lesson.

It gives the impression of someone recalling small everyday moments and becoming lost in thought.

The title “Ghost” also makes me wonder if it represents the inner feelings we usually keep hidden from others.

「エンジェル」

こちらは、羽の生えた男性が椅子に座り、うつむきながら考え込んでいます。

エンジェルというタイトルですが、自分がエンジェルであることに納得していないようにも見えました。

“Angel”

This sculpture depicts a winged man sitting on a chair with his head bowed, deep in thought.

Despite the title “Angel,” he seemed to me as though he had not fully accepted being an angel.

「船の中の男」

進行方向を気にしているような裸の男性が、船に乗っています。

目的の場所にたどり着くまでには、まだ時間がかかりそうな様子です。

“Man in a Boat”

A naked man sits in a boat, seemingly concerned about the direction in which it is heading.

His destination still seems to be a long way off.

「チキン／マン」

下着姿のおじいさんと一羽のニワトリが対峙しています。

おじいさんは、どこか喧嘩腰な姿勢に見えますが、ニワトリは意外にも冷静にこの状況を見つめているようです。

目の前にいる人間のことを、興味深そうに観察し、面白がっているのかもしれません。

“Chicken / Man”

An elderly man in his underwear and a chicken stand facing each other.

The man appears to take an almost confrontational stance, while the chicken seems surprisingly calm as it watches the situation unfold.

It may even be observing the man with curiosity, finding him rather amusing.

「買い物中の女」

両手は重い買い物袋で塞がり、コートの懐には赤ん坊を抱えています。

不安げな表情や、生気を感じられない目と視線が印象的でした。

私たちの身近な日常を見渡してみると、この作品のような光景は意外と多く潜んでいるように感じました。

“Woman with Shopping”

Her hands are occupied with heavy shopping bags, while she carries a baby inside her coat.

Her anxious expression and lifeless eyes and gaze left a strong impression on me.

Looking around at our own everyday lives, I felt that scenes similar to this work may actually be more common than we realize.

「マス」

広い空間の中に、規則性のない配置でたくさんの頭蓋骨が置かれていました。

頭蓋骨は人間の身体の一部ですが、客観的に見ると、とても強い存在感を持ち、自分とは関係のないもののようにも感じられてきます。

死を連想させるため恐怖心を抱かせますが、人間である以上、誰もがいつか向き合うことになるテーマでもあります。

“Mass”

In a large space, many skulls were placed in an irregular arrangement.

Although skulls are part of the human body, when viewed objectively, they have a powerful presence and begin to feel like something separate from ourselves.

They evoke a sense of fear because they remind us of death, but as human beings, death is also a theme that everyone will eventually have to face.

今回は展示作品の一部をブログで紹介しましたが、人物彫刻の心情は、場面や顔の表情、特に視線によって表現されているように感じました。

作品には大小さまざまなスケールがあり、ブログの写真だけでは十分に伝えきれない部分もあります。

ぜひ森美術館へ足を運び、実際に作品と向き合うことで感じられる印象や、作家について知るきっかけにしていただければ嬉しいです。

Although I have introduced only a selection of the exhibited works on this blog, I felt that the emotions of the figures in these sculptures are expressed through their situations, facial expressions, and especially their gazes.

The works vary greatly in scale, and there are aspects that cannot be fully conveyed through photographs on a blog.

I hope this will inspire you to visit the Mori Art Museum, experience the impressions that come from seeing the works in person, and discover more about the artist.
