６月の長寿寺と北鎌倉散策 | A June Stroll Through Kita-Kamakura and Chojuji Temple

前回訪れた円応寺を後にし、次の目的地である長寿寺へ向かいました。
長寿寺は、北鎌倉の山あいに佇む臨済宗建長寺派の禅寺です。１４世紀初期に室町幕府初代将軍・足利尊氏が自邸跡に創建し、その戒名「長寿寺殿」が寺名の由来となっています。その後、四男の足利基氏が堂や建物を整え、現在の寺院の基礎が築かれました。
正面入口まで来ましたが、門は閉ざされていて中へ入ることはできませんでした。
近くの案内を見ると、長寿寺は限定公開で拝観できるお寺だと知りました。あまり調べずに訪れたので、少し残念でした。
ただ、このまま帰るのももったいなかったので、閉ざされた門越しに見える建物を撮影しておきました。

After leaving Ennoji Temple, which I introduced in my previous post, I headed to my next destination, Chojuji Temple.
Chojuji Temple is a Zen temple of the Rinzai Kenchoji school, nestled in the hills of Kita-Kamakura. It was founded in the early 14th century by Ashikaga Takauji, the first shogun of the Muromachi Shogunate, on the site of his former residence. The temple was named after his posthumous Buddhist name, “Chojuji-den.” Later, his fourth son, Ashikaga Motouji, developed the temple buildings, laying the foundation for the temple as it exists today.
When I arrived at the main entrance, the gate was closed, so I couldn’t go inside.
I then noticed a sign explaining that Chojuji Temple is open to visitors only during limited public viewing periods. Since I hadn’t looked into it beforehand, I was a little disappointed.
Still, I didn’t want to leave empty-handed, so I took a photo of the temple building through the closed gate.
次のお寺へ向かう途中、道沿いには可愛らしいピンク色の紫陽花が咲いていました。
On the way to the next temple, I came across some lovely pink hydrangeas blooming along the roadside.
角を曲がろうとすると、昔ながらの丸型郵便ポストがありました。
私の住んでいる地域ではあまり見かけませんが、鎌倉では時々見かけるような気がします。
As I was about to turn the corner, I noticed a traditional round postbox. I don’t see this type very often where I live, but I feel like I see them from time to time in Kamakura.
長寿寺の限定公開は、今年は秋にも行われるようです。
日程が合えば、もう一度訪れてみたいと思います。
鎌倉を訪れた際は、散策もあわせて楽しんでみてください。

Chojuji Temple is also scheduled to have a limited public opening this autumn. If the dates work out, I’d love to visit again.
