北鎌倉・円応寺｜静寂と抹茶を味わうひととき | A Quiet Moment at Ennoji Temple

前回の明月院での撮影を終えた後、北鎌倉を散策しようと思い、円応寺へやってきました。

円応寺は、１３世紀中期に創建された、鎌倉でも珍しい冥界信仰の寺院です。鎌倉大仏の近くに建立された後、由比ヶ浜を経て、現在の北鎌倉へ移されました。

今回は入り口の階段ではなく、少し坂になった道を上がってきました。

木々の間から光が差し込み、まるで境内へと導いてくれているようでした。

After finishing my photo walk at Meigetsu-in in my previous post, I decided to continue exploring Kita-Kamakura and visited Ennoji Temple.

Ennoji Temple was founded in the mid-13th century and is one of Kamakura’s rare temples associated with the belief in the afterlife. Originally built near the Great Buddha of Kamakura, it was later relocated via Yuigahama to its current location in Kita-Kamakura.

This time, rather than climbing the entrance steps, I followed the gently sloping path.

Sunlight filtered through the trees, as if gently guiding me toward the temple grounds.

本堂には、冥界で亡者を裁くとされる閻魔大王（えんまだいおう）を中心に、十王（じゅうおう）や鬼卒（きそつ）、倶生神（くしょうじん）の像が立ち並んでいます。

本堂内は撮影しませんでしたが、迫力ある像に囲まれた空間には椅子が並べられており、少し足を休ませていただきました。

とても静かで、心を無にできるような時間が流れていました。

Inside the main hall, statues of Enma Daio, the King of Hell who is said to judge the souls of the deceased, stand alongside the Ten Kings, demon attendants, and Kushojin.

Photography was not permitted inside the main hall, but chairs had been placed in the space surrounded by these impressive statues, allowing visitors to sit and rest for a while.

The hall was incredibly quiet, creating an atmosphere where I could simply clear my mind and enjoy the silence.

本堂を出ると、境内にお抹茶がいただけるカフェがあり、美味しそうだったので立ち寄ることにしました。

After leaving the main hall, I found a café within the temple grounds where visitors can enjoy matcha. It looked so inviting that I decided to stop by.

中に入ると、「猪目模様」と呼ばれる猪目窓があります。

ハートのような形をしていることから、「縁結び」や「福を招く」意味があるとされています。

その先に見えるのは枯山水です。五つの石が置かれており、漢字の「心」を表しているそうです。

Inside the café, there is an Inome window, featuring the traditional Inome (boar’s eye) pattern.

Because it resembles a heart, it is believed to symbolize good relationships and invite good fortune.

Beyond the window is a karesansui. Five stones are carefully arranged to represent the Japanese character for “heart.”

今回はコーヒーも気になりましたが、お抹茶を選びました。

器も素敵だったので、写真に収めてみました。

Although the coffee looked tempting, I decided to choose matcha instead.

The tea bowl was also beautiful, so I captured it in a photo.

カフェでゆっくりした後は、改めて境内を散策しました。

本堂の入り口の方を一枚撮影しました。

この日はとても天気が良く、少し眩しいくらいの日和でした。

After relaxing at the café, I took another walk around the temple grounds.

I took a photo facing the entrance of the main hall.

The weather was beautiful that day, and the sunlight was almost dazzling.

境内の散策を終え、帰りに入り口の階段を下りていると、きれいな花が咲いていました。

As I finished exploring the temple grounds and walked down the entrance steps on my way back, I noticed some beautiful flowers in bloom.

境内はそれほど広くはありませんが、本堂にいると自然と気持ちが落ち着く、そんな場所でした。北鎌倉を訪れた際には、ぜひ立ち寄っていただきたいお寺です。

境内にはカフェもあり、枯山水を眺めながらお抹茶やコーヒーをいただくことができます。気になった方は、ぜひ訪れてみてください。

Although the temple grounds are not very large, the main hall is a place where I naturally felt calm and at ease. If you ever visit Kita-Kamakura, I highly recommend stopping by.
