城ケ島公園で出会ったアメリカデイゴ｜馬の背洞門と龍神社を巡る | Jogashima

前回の横須賀軍港クルーズを楽しんだ後、県立城ケ島公園を訪れました。

まずは、馬の背洞門へ向かいます。

園内を歩いていると分かれ道があり、案内板を頼りに目的地へ向かって進みました。

After enjoying the Yokosuka Naval Port Cruise, I visited Jogashima Park.

My first destination was Umanose Domon.

As I walked through the park, I came to a fork in the path and followed the signs toward my destination.

到着すると、比較的若いカップルなどが訪れていました。

目の前に広がる馬の背洞門を記念に一枚撮影します。

近くに設置されていた案内板には、明治の文豪・大町桂月がこの地を訪れた際の紀行文の一節が紹介されていました。

「馬の背に至る、怒涛脚下の巌を噛む、
左は房州、右は伊豆、前には雲の峰聳ゆ、その雲の峰少し薄らぎて中より大島あらわる、馬の背はやがて馬の首となり、長厳海に突出す。云々」

When we arrived, a few visitors, including some young couples, were already enjoying the view.

I stopped to take a photo of Umanose Domon, the area’s iconic rock formation.

Nearby, an information board displayed an excerpt from the travel writings of the Meiji-era author Keigetsu Ōmachi, who described the scenery like this:

“Reaching Umanose, I watched the raging waves crash against the rocks below. To the left lay Bōshū, to the right Izu, while ahead towering clouds rose into the sky. As the clouds gradually thinned, Ōshima Island appeared in the distance. Umanose then became like the neck of a horse, stretching boldly out into the sea…”

次に向かったのは、龍神社です。インターネットで偶然その存在を知り、せっかくなので探してみることにしました。

道中では、鮮やかな赤い花を咲かせたアメリカデイゴが目に留まります。思わず足を止め、その可愛らしい花を写真に収めました。

近くにはベンチも設置されており、散策の途中でひと休みするのにちょうど良い場所です。

Next, I headed to Ryujin Shrine. I had happened to learn about it online, so I decided to look for it while I was there.

Along the way, I noticed a Coral Tree covered in vibrant red blossoms. I couldn’t resist stopping to take a few photos of its beautiful flowers.

There were also a few benches nearby, making it a nice place to take a short break during the walk.

安房埼灯台までやってきました。

龍神社は、この先の岩場へ降りた場所にあるようなので、探しに向かいます。

しばらく歩くと、岩壁の根元に小さな岩窟を見つけました。写真では左下に写っています。

中を覗いてみると、小さな仏像のようなものが安置されていました。

見た目はいわゆる神社という雰囲気ではなかったため、本当に龍神社なのかは分かりませんでしたが、手を合わせてその場を後にしました。

Next, I headed to Ryujin Shrine.

Since Ryujin Shrine was said to be located among the rocks beyond this point, I set off to look for it.

After walking for a while, I found a small grotto. In the photo, it can be seen at the base of the rock wall in the lower left corner.

Looking inside, I found what appeared to be a small Buddhist statue enshrined there.

It didn’t look like what I would normally imagine a shrine to be, so I wasn’t entirely sure whether this was really Ryujinja Shrine. Still, I offered a quiet prayer before leaving.

公園内はとても広く、今回はすべてを回ることはできませんでしたが、三浦半島の風景や、探して訪れた龍神社、道中で出会ったアメリカデイゴなど、短い時間でしたが充実した時間を過ごせました。

The park is quite large, and I wasn’t able to explore all of it this time. Even so, I enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the Miura Peninsula, searching for Ryujin Shrine, and coming across a Coral Tree along the way. Although my visit was brief, it was a rewarding experience.
