神田山延命院｜平将門公 胴塚のある寺｜Kadoyama Enmei-in Temple, Home to the Torso Mound of Taira no Masakado

この日は、平将門公の胴塚で知られる 神田山如意輪寺延命院を訪れました。
午前中に訪れた境内は、とても静かでした。
写真の右側には、昭和５０年に東京都大手町の将門首塚から移された「南無阿弥陀仏」の石塔婆が建てられています。
奥には平将門公の胴塚があり、その上にカヤの木が立っています。

On this day, I visited Kadoyama Nyoirin-ji Enmei-in Temple, known for being the site of the torso mound of Taira no Masakado.
The temple grounds were very quiet when I arrived in the morning.
On the right side of the photograph stands a stone stupa inscribed with “Namu Amida Butsu,” which was relocated in 1975 from Masakado’s head mound in Otemachi, Tokyo.
Further inside lies the torso mound of Taira no Masakado, above which a kaya tree stands.
平将門公の胴塚を守るように、寄り添うように立つカヤの木。
その下には円墳があり、将門山と呼ばれているそうです。
A Japanese Torreya stands beside the torso mound of Taira no Masakado, as if watching over it.
Beneath it lies a circular burial mound known as Masakado-yama.
胴塚の前には、六地蔵たちが見守るように並んでいます。
In front of the torso mound, six Jizō statues are arranged as if watching over it.
胴塚に手を合わせた後、不動堂で参拝し、境内をひと通り巡ってから駐車場へ戻りました。
After offering a prayer at the torso mound, I visited the Fudō Hall, then took a quiet walk around the temple grounds before returning to the parking area.

東京にある首塚の存在は知っていましたが、國王神社を訪れる際に胴塚の存在を知り、今回足を運びました。
ここはとても穏やかで、静かな場所でした。
三大怨霊という印象が強かっただけに、実際に國王神社と胴塚を訪れてみると、想像していた雰囲気とは大きく異なっていました。
平将門公について知りたい方には、ぜひ訪れていただきたい場所です。
お寺を出た後は最後の目的地に向かいます。

I had known about the head mound in Tokyo, but I learned of the existence of the torso mound when preparing to visit Kokuō Shrine, which led me to come here on this occasion.
This was a very peaceful and quiet place.
Because the image of Taira no Masakado as one of Japan’s Three Great Vengeful Spirits is so strong, visiting Kokuō Shrine and the torso mound felt very different from what I had imagined.
For those who would like to learn more about Taira no Masakado, this is a place I would highly recommend visiting.
After leaving the temple, I headed for the final destination of the day.
