Uraga Dock | A Clock in Color and Black and White

Hello.

On this day, I photographed the buildings of Uraga Dock on my way to visit Kano Shrine.

Rather than simply photographing the buildings, I focused on the clock mounted on one of them and photographed it in both color and black and white.

The clock hands are frozen at a time in the morning.

I wonder if they have remained this way for all these years.

The site ceased to be used as a shipyard in 2003, but the buildings from that time still remain.

Shooting in black and white enhances the impression that time has stood still, with only the buildings remaining.

Since the gate was closed, I photographed a nearby yucca plant through the gap between the gateposts.

I find this plant rather unusual in appearance, but in black and white, I can appreciate a different kind of beauty in it.

I previously created a work titled “Uraga Dock” in 2021. This time, I experimented with photographing the buildings of Uraga Dock, focusing on the differences in impression between color and black-and-white images.

We rarely have the opportunity to see everyday scenery in black and white.

It’s interesting to experiment with changing familiar scenery into something different through photography and see how our perception of it changes.

Next, I’m heading to Kano Shrine.

See you in the next post.
