善國寺とほおずき幸福守｜Zenkokuji Temple and the Hozuki Happiness Omamori

前回の雑司が谷旧宣教師館の見学や、通り沿いに咲くサルスベリを楽しみながら、次に向かったのは神楽坂にある善國寺です。

飯田橋駅から１０分ほど歩いたところにあるお寺で、夏目漱石の『坊っちゃん』にも登場する神楽坂の街に建ち、本尊として毘沙門天を祀っています。

まずは参拝を済ませ、7月限定の「ほおずき幸福守」を求めて事務所へ向かいました。

この日は8月に入ったばかり。7月限定のお守りなので、まだ残っているか尋ねてみると、幸いにもまだ残っているとのことでした。

お守りの授与料を納め、ほおずき幸福守をいただきました。

ほおずきの刺繍が施された、可愛らしく綺麗なお守りです。

After visiting the Zoshigaya Old Missionary House and enjoying the crape myrtles blooming along the streets, I headed to Zenkokuji Temple in Kagurazaka.

The temple is about a 10-minute walk from Iidabashi Station. Located in the historic Kagurazaka neighborhood featured in Natsume Soseki’s novel Botchan, it enshrines Bishamonten as its principal deity.

After paying my respects, I headed to the temple office to look for the “Hozuki Happiness Omamori,” a traditional Japanese protective amulet available only in July.

It was already the beginning of August, so I wasn’t sure if any were still available. When I asked, I was happy to find out that there were still some left.

I paid for the amulet and received the Hozuki Happiness Omamori.

It is a beautiful and charming amulet decorated with embroidered lantern flowers.

おみくじを引いてみると、末吉でした。あまり良い結果とは言えませんが、「次第に運が開ける。一足飛びに事を成そうとすると、あやまります」と書かれていました。

焦って物事を進めようとせず、一つひとつ着実に取り組みながら、少しずつ達成していこうと思います。

When I drew an omikuji fortune, I received Sue-kichi, which is not considered a particularly lucky result. However, it said, “Your fortune will gradually improve. If you try to accomplish things all at once, you may make mistakes.”

I took this as a reminder not to rush things, but to work steadily toward my goals, one step at a time.

境内の一角には、いくつかの風鈴が吊るされていました。

向日葵が描かれた風鈴もあり、とても可愛らしいです。

Several wind chimes were hanging in one corner of the temple grounds.

One of them featured a sunflower design, which I thought was especially cute.

境内の隅には、一本の木が立っていました。何か意味があるのかもしれませんが、詳しいことはわかりません。

その上方には、神楽坂まつりの提灯が吊るされていました。

At the edge of the temple grounds stood a single tree. It may have had some significance, but I’m not sure what it was.

境内を出て、向かいの歩道から少し路地に入った場所で、善國寺の正面を撮影してみました。

通りには提灯が飾られ、夏らしい風景が広がっていました。

After leaving the temple grounds, I stepped a little way into a side street from the sidewalk across the road and took a photo of the front of Zenkokuji Temple.

Lanterns were hung along the street, creating a summery atmosphere.

今回、一つだけ惜しかったのは、阿吽の虎の像を撮り忘れてしまったことです。

写真にも小さく写っていますが、アップでは撮影していませんでした。

神楽坂の通りには人がいましたが、境内にはほとんど人がおらず、行事のない日は静かに参拝できる場所なのだと思います。

落ち着いて参拝したい方は、行事のない日に訪れると、ゆっくり過ごせそうです。

善國寺は夏目漱石の『坊っちゃん』にも登場する神楽坂にあるので、文学作品に描かれた場所を歩いてみたい方にもおすすめです。

いただいたほおずき幸福守もカバンにつけて、残りの年も頑張りたいと思います。

One thing I regret from this visit is that I forgot to take a proper photo of the pair of guardian tiger statues.

They can be seen in the background of one of my photos, but I didn’t take a close-up.

There were people on the streets of Kagurazaka, but the temple grounds were almost empty. It seems to be a quiet place to visit when there are no events taking place.

If you prefer to visit in a calm and peaceful atmosphere, it may be a good idea to go on a day when there are no events.

Zenkokuji Temple is located in Kagurazaka, which also appears in Natsume Soseki’s novel Botchan, so I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys visiting places featured in literary works.

I’ll keep the Hozuki Happiness Omamori on my bag and keep doing my best for the rest of the year.
