平和の薔薇 – ヨーゼフ・ボイスに触れて – The Rose of Peace | after Joseph Beuys

数年前に訪れたカスヤの森現代美術館で、このような作品に出会いました。

Several years ago, I encountered a work like this at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Kasuya-no-Mori.

ヨーゼフ・ボイスの作品「バラなしには我々はそれをしない」。
二人の男性が向かい合って、片方が何かを話しているように見えます。その間には、瓶に挿された一輪のバラがあります。
この光景は、バラがあることで平和な会話が可能になることを表現しているようです。
ここでは、バラが友好的な会話の媒体として機能しています。
私はこの作品に出会ってから、バラは平和の象徴なんだと解釈しました。
Joseph Beuys’ work “ohne die Rose tun wir’s nicht”
Two men face each other, one appearing to speak. Between them is a single rose placed in a bottle.
It appears to express the idea that the presence of the rose makes a peaceful conversation possible.
In this sense, the rose functions as a medium for friendly dialogue.
Having never thought deeply about roses before, this work led me to interpret the rose as a symbol of peace.
バラはそこにいる人々の空間や日常生活を明るくすると信じています。
バラの存在は平和の象徴です。

I believe that roses brighten the spaces and everyday lives of the people who are there.
The presence of a rose is a symbol of peace.
