Kano Shrine | Landscapes in Color and Black and White

Hello.

After finishing my photography session at Uraga Dock, I headed to Kannon Shrine.

Upon arriving at the shrine, I first paid my respects.

Then, I decided to climb Mount Myojin to see the sea from the summit behind the shrine.

A long flight of stairs leads to the summit. Along the way, there is a quiet space surrounded by lush trees.

That day, I came across a spot that caught my attention and photographed it in both color and black and white.

In color, the tree trunks look like human figures.

In contrast, the black-and-white images make the space appear flatter, allowing the light filtering into it to stand out more prominently.

When I reached the summit, I headed straight to a spot overlooking the sea. However, the grass was too tall to get a clear view.

There is an inner shrine at the summit, but its gate is usually closed, so visitors cannot enter.

I tried taking some photos from a short distance away.

The path leading to the inner shrine, surrounded by trees, created a quiet, enclosed space.

I photographed the area around the stone fence.

The sunlight filtering through the leaves was beautiful.

I came back down from the summit to the area where the main shrine building is located.

There is a ginkgo tree in the shrine grounds.
Its leaves sway in the wind.

After leaving the shrine grounds, I photographed the ivy spreading across the shrine’s stone fence from the outside.

This time, I tried photographing in both color and black and white.

I feel that color can express a certain amount, but black and white is better suited to capturing something deeper at its core.

I plan to continue experimenting with black-and-white photography from time to time.

Kano Shrine was as refreshing and peaceful as ever. I hope to visit again.

See you in the next post.
